Invest Newcastle will return to the Marché International des Professionnels de l’Immobilier (MIPIM) in Cannes in March 2027 with a public-private delegation promoting the proposed Mayoral Development Zone along the River Tyne alongside regeneration, cultural infrastructure, space and technology projects.

MIPIM is a four-day international real estate conference bringing together investors, developers, cities, architects and other professionals involved in property and urban development.

The 2027 event will take place from 16 to 19 March. According to the organisation, the city will again have an exhibition pavilion and a three-day programme of panels, presentations and networking events for investors, developers and other real estate decision-makers.

The proposed Newcastle-Gateshead Mayoral Development Zone along the River Tyne intends to bring together Forth Yards, Gateshead Quays and several other sites identified in the North East Devolution Deal.

Invest Newcastle says it would accelerate leisure and residential development along the river, but the announcement does not set out who would designate the zone or when it could take effect.

Other projects named in the pitch include the North East Space Skills and Technology Centre (NESST), Quayside Music Studios and the Pilgrim Street redevelopment.

The space centre and music studios are forthcoming, while the Pilgrim Street development is already under way.

Pam Smith, chief executive of Newcastle City Council, said MIPIM was “a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships with investors and developers, showcase our investment opportunities and build confidence in our ability to deliver”.

The 2025 programme promoted schemes including Forth Yards, the Baltic Quarter and Riverside Sunderland. Invest Newcastle said more than 20 regional businesses attended alongside public-sector partners.

The organisation’s MIPIM page reports that the 2025 event generated more than £360m of potential investment value, 182 leads, 22 events and 56 delegates from 23 organisations.

Taken together, the published figures describe potential investment and business leads rather than completed transactions.

Invest Newcastle says its 2026 presence involved almost 20 partners and 15 events on its stand. It says the activity generated potential investment worth millions of pounds.

The public-private format is central to the approach. Invest Newcastle brings councils, developers, advisers, universities and other businesses into the same delegation.

Councils can present regeneration priorities and development opportunities, while private-sector partners can promote their own projects and build relationships with investors.

Invest Newcastle is part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative, the destination and inward-investment agency for NewcastleGateshead. It works with Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council and Experience North East England.

The organisation says it has supported almost 500 businesses to relocate or expand since 2013, helping to create and safeguard more than 17,200 jobs.

Across its wider inward-investment work, Invest Newcastle reported 31 companies establishing operations across Newcastle and Gateshead in 2025/26, with a further 12 businesses expanding their presence.

Invest Newcastle said the activity generated 1,619 new jobs and safeguarded 611 existing roles. Those figures cover the organisation’s work as a whole rather than MIPIM alone.

Invest Newcastle has announced the outline programme ahead of its formal launch at Hotel Gotham on Pilgrim Street, part of the wider redevelopment being presented to investors. The announcement does not give a date for the launch.
