Finance software company iplicit has opened a Newcastle office and is building a new sales team in the city as it expands its UK operation.

The company, which provides cloud-based accounting software for mid-sized organisations, said Newcastle was chosen partly for its pool of experienced finance-software workers.

iplicit has already recruited more than 40 employees from established UK software companies, including almost 30 former Sage staff. The company has not said how many of those employees are based in Newcastle.

Chief executive Lyndon Stickley said: “Newcastle provides us with a direct line into some of the most experienced finance software resources in the country.”

He said that expertise extended across sales, marketing, services and support.

The Newcastle office is iplicit's second physical base alongside Bournemouth. The company operates largely remotely but is establishing a sales development representative team in Newcastle whose members will work from the office three days a week.

Recruitment material published by iplicit says it is building the Newcastle team from October and describes the city as its “northern home” for sales development. Applicants are required to live within commuting distance of central Newcastle.

The move provides another example of the wider employment base built around Sage, which remains one of the North East's largest technology companies and is headquartered at Cobalt Business Park in North Tyneside.

iplicit launched its current cloud accounting platform in 2019 and targets organisations that have outgrown entry-level accounting products but do not require larger enterprise systems.

The company says it has passed £10m in annual recurring revenue after growing by more than 100 per cent a year for seven consecutive years. It now has more than 200 employees and says its software is used by more than 50,000 people each day across 103 countries.

In January 2025, iplicit secured a £25m investment from technology growth investor One Peak, its first external institutional funding round. The company said the investment would be used to accelerate product development and expansion.

Its Newcastle recruitment will initially focus on outbound sales. The company is advertising for sales development representatives to work with mid-sized UK organisations considering moving away from older finance systems, including products from Sage and other established providers.

The new team is expected to begin working from the Newcastle office this month.
